LFA Cup holders Lazio knocked out by Serie C outfit Mayans in embarrasing loss

Supporters of Lazio are reeling today after an embarrassing 2-1 away defeat in the LFA Cup by Serie C side Mayans. The result dumps the Roman side out of the competition, a competition which Lazio won last season. The Biancocelesti were 2-0 down to the minnows before the half-time break and in reply managed only a single goal in the final minutes of the second half.

Speaking after the loss, Lazio coach Delio Rossi slammed the referee saying that the Mayans players were “dirty scoundrels committing fouls all the time but the ref was blind”. Mr Rossi now finds himself under pressure as his side struggle in the league. Lazio earned promotion back into Serie A last season however the club currently lie only 1 point above the relegation zone in the Legoland Football League. Some Lazio fans are now calling for President Noel to sack Rossi.

Elsewhere, the newly installed favourites for the cup, Legoland FC, comfortably defeated non-leaguers La Citta di Roma 2-0, Port Villa defeated feeder club Viafort 2-1 and Inter Police won out 3-2 at the Republican Stadium in the all-Serie A clash against Republic.

The other night’s winners were Sampdoria who defeated Fisheries Union, Third Division UASL who defeated Island Town, Cruisers who beat Cremonese and Cante Athletic who overcame Pentrosse.

The draw for the Quarter Finals will be made on Sunday.
